Frequently Asked Questions
How Big Is The Hall?
The main hall is 7.6 x 11.1 metres (25 x 36 feet). The height to the underside of the beams is 3.4 metres (11 feet). For more details please refer to the Floor Plan in Facilities.
Are there catering facilities?
There is a well-equipped kitchen. Use of the refrigerator, kettle, and space for serving pre-prepared food, is included in the standard hire fee. Use of other equipment – ovens, dishwasher, crockery, cutlery and glassware – is at an extra charge. Please see BOOKINGS for details.
Can I use a Bouncy Castle?
There are special conditions applying to the use of Bouncy Castles. These are required for our Public Liability Insurance and Health & Safety. The special conditions are set out in the Conditions of Hire. Please check the size of the Bouncy Castle against the size of the Hall noting the height of the exposed beams.
Is There Any Outside Space?
There is limited outdoor space. There is a small seating area to the front left of the drive and an area of hard-standing to the front and left of the Hall. These areas are only available at weekends and out of term-time. There are two allocated parking spaces reserved for the residents of the cottage. Please do not park in those spaces. The outdoor space to the rear of the Hall is private and not available for hire.
Do I need a licence to serve alcohol?
You will need to apply for a permitted Temporary Event Notice (TEN) if you wish to lawfully hold a temporary event or function for entertainment purposes. A licence is not normally needed if you plan to provide alcoholic drinks for free.
If the cost of alcoholic drinks is included in an entry price for your event, or the cost of food, you would be considered to be selling alcohol. If you want to sell alcohol you must obtain a temporary event notice.
Please refer to Guildford Borough Council for further details.
Are there presentation facilities?
Yes. The hall is equipped for sound and vision, suitable for speech, music, video and presentations. There is an extra charge for the use of this equipment.
How many people can the Hall accommodate?
Up to 100 people for a standing buffet style event or formal presentation seated in rows.
Up to 80 people seated for an event such as a quiz night with light refreshments.
Up to 60 people seated for more formal dining
Where can I park?
There is plenty of parking in Shackleford Road adjacent to the Hall.
Where is the Hall located?
The Hall is located in a quiet setting in Shackleford in an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB). The Victorian church of St. Mary’s, designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, is only a few minutes walk away, making the Hall an ideal venue for celebrating Christenings and smaller weddings.
See LOCATION for a map and detailed directions. Please be mindful that the Hall is in a residential area.
Can we hold a wedding reception?
Yes. We are very happy to accommodate smaller weddings and suggest up to 60 guests depending on the table layout. Please contact us to discuss your requirements in detail. We suggest a guide price of £400 for full day hire inclusive of all the facilities with some additional time before and after for setting-up and clearing away.
Are there any restrictions on use?
There are a few. You must have any necessary licences required by Guildford Borough Council. The evening booking finishes at 11:00 pm and all activities must be finished by then. We’re happy to allow an extra 30 minutes for clearing up remembering that we are in a residential area and the cottage is occupied.
We ask that noise be kept to a reasonable level at all times. Unfortunately we are unable accept bookings for teenage parties or discos.
